Cody Roberts of Lakeview is tackled by a host of Manistee players during the third quarter Friday night.

LAKEVIEW — Lakeview’s football team tried to get going against Manistee on Friday.
It just didn’t happen, as the Chippewas shut out the Wildcats 32-0.
The Wildcats (1-2, 0-1) kept Manistee off the scoreboard in the first quarter.
“They broke a long one early in the game and Jordan Betham ran him down,” Lakeview coach Guenther Mittelstaedt said. “We stopped them down there and recovered a fumble.”
But the Chippewas scored twice in the second quarter for a 13-0 lead.
At that point coach Mittelstaedt thought he could still get his team into the game.
“We were going to get the second-half kickoff,” he said. “We were hoping we could move the chains. We just weren’t clicking. We thought if we could come down and score it would be a real tight game.”
It didn’t happen. Manistee scored another touchdown for a 20-0 lead.
“They (Manistee) got two touchdowns late in the game,” Mittelstaedt said.
Meanwhile the Lakeview offense was held to just 140 yards of offense. Three different quarterbacks combined to go 9-of-20 for 45 yards passing and the rushing unit got 95 yards on 42 carries.
“I think overall offensively we didn’t move the ball as well as we like,” Mittelstaedt said. “We thought they (Manistee) played well defensively.”
Cody Roberts led the Wildcats with 12 carries for 37 yards and Joe Main had 11 carries for 25 yards.
Main had 10 tackles and Nate Haywood added eight.
Lakeview will try to regroup when it travels to Holton next week. Mittelstaedt knows what his team has to work on before that game.
“I think we have to work on some of the basics, moving the ball and moving people off the ball,” he said. “We have to get a good defensive package for next Friday.”
