STANTON — The Montcalm County Computer Information Systems (CIS) Committee was supposed to meet Wednesday to discuss the county’s out-of-date website.
However, the meeting had to be canceled due to the lack of a quorum.
Chairman Ron Retzloff was present, as were members Controller-Administrator Chris Hyzer and Information Technology Director Mary MacMillen.
Members not present were Eureka Township Treasurer Cindy Hanson, Montcalm Alliance Executive Director Franz Mogdis and Howard City Village Manager Mark Rambo — whose last day as such was today.
A longtime vacancy also remains on the committee due to the resignation of Lisa Lund.
Committee members had an informal discussion and agreed to try to meet again at 3:30 p.m. Monday after the regular monthly Board of Commissioners meeting.
Members also agreed to recommend the Board of Commissioners appoint Stanton City Commissioner Don Smucker as a member of the CIS Committee. Smucker was present Wednesday, but could not be appointed by the committee due to the lack of a quorum.
Montcalm County’s homepage — — is mostly up to date, but some of its numerous subsections haven’t been touched in years.
The online pages for Bushnell, Day, Douglass, Fairplain, Home and Pine townships and the village of Edmore and the village of McBride have not been updated since mid-2009. Elected officials who are no longer serving are still listed as contacts. Board meeting minutes are completely unavailable for some local governments.
Montcalm Alliance Entrepreneurial Resource Coordinator Richard Wenger appeared at the August meeting of the Economic Development & Physical Resources Committee to propose revamping the website at a cost of about $6,000.
According to Hyzer, a number of people are responsible for updating the website, including county department heads and city, village and township officials. He said county officials have helped local government officials update their information when asked for assistance.
