LAKEVIEW — Michelle Outman and Nicole Ruvalcaba want people to get moving.
The Lakeview women are organizing the Wildcat PRIDE Runfest set for 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at Kos Field. The event features the options of a 5K or 10K walk or run.
PRIDE stands for positive attitude, respect of others, invest in your education, diligence and enjoy your day.
“The purpose of the event is to encourage kids to get up, get moving and get healthy, but more importantly to put the fun back in physical fitness,” Outman said.
Ruvalcaba was inspired to create the event after participating in the Yellow Jacket Challenge, a 5K run and walk in Greenville. Ruvalcaba told her friend and fellow runner Outman about the experience. The women decided to host their own event.
“The Wildcat PRIDE Runfest is an event geared for the whole community,” Outman said. “The goal is to provide a community event designed to encourage physical activity, as well as raise funds for educational programs within Lakeview Community Schools.”
The event will also serve as the kickoff to Lakeview’s homecoming week.
“We are hoping to encourage some of the youth to catch the fever of running, therefore to build on our already existing track program,” Ruvalcaba said.
“People are believing in what we are doing and I am in awe every day,” Outman added. “This event is much bigger than we know and can grasp right now. I am truly grateful for working alongside the group that is working to put this event on.”
Cost is $20 for adults. Children can participate for free. Participants will receive a T-shirt and water bottle if they register by Saturday.
Sign up at or call Outman at (989) 824-9100 for more information.
Lakeview Dental Associates and Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital are the title sponsors of the event. Anyone wishing to help sponsor may call Ruvalcaba at (616) 292-8318.
