BELDING — The music of marching bands will float over Belding on Saturday as the 11 different bands from the region converge for the Belding Marching Band Invitational at Rudness Field.
The competition begins at 5 p.m. and will conclude sometime around 9 p.m.
According to former Belding Band Director Jonathan Schnicke, who is helping organize the event, there will be schools as large as Hudsonville and as small as Kent City represented at the competition to accumulate points for state finals.
Last year’s Flight IV state champion Newaygo High School will perform, as well as the four-time Flight II state champion Reeths-Puffer.
“Everyone loves to see the marching bands on Friday nights,” Schnicke said. “But there’s something about when these bands are the feature performers. It just takes it all on to another level.”
Schnicke predicts that Belding’s hometown band will do very well in Saturday’s competition.
“I think they’re going to come out very strong,” he said. “I know the staff has been working really hard to get them ready for the show.”
He encourages the community to come out and show their support, especially as Saturday kicks off a hot and heavy competition schedule.
Tickets for the competition are $7 for adults, $5 for students and free for children 3 and younger. Funds raised at the event will go to support the Belding band program.
