Belding varsity football players Andrew Leppink (21) and Cody Douglas (22) wore their special “Day to Believe” pink jerseys during Friday’s assembly.

BELDING  — There was no shortage of pink Belding spirit in the Belding High School gymnasium Friday afternoon.
Middle school and high school students gathered to kick off an afternoon and evening of pink events for the “Day to Believe.”“Take a moment to look around the gym,” said High School Principal Brett Zuver. “This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Everyone is showing their support.”
Zuver congratulated the students for their part in helping raise money for Belding area cancer patients and their families.
The B Foundation planned the “Day to Believe.” The foundation is a group of local volunteers who wanted to support members in their community affected by cancer.
“We’re not a town rolling dough, but this community has already raised $30,000 to $35,000 worth of donations,” Zuver said, which created an eruption of cheers from the students. “It’s a wonderful, wonderful thing.”
The students kept the excitement pouring out as they competed against each other with spirit cheers and a spontaneous “flash mob” performance of students dancing to “Don’t Stop Believing.”
“We weren’t allowed to tell anyone about (the flash mob),” said Senior Kyleigh Linebaugh, who was part of the multi-class group of students who displayed their pink groove to the thrills of their peers.
Linebaugh said her classmates are “all hyped up” for the rest of the “Day to Believe” events that continued into the night.
“It will be a sea of pink tonight (at the football game),” she said. “It will be great to see the community all come together for such a great cause.”
Organizers said more than 2,150 pink “Believe” T-shirts have been sold in the past couple months and only about 40 or 50 shirts are left for purchase.
