FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP — A car-deer accident led to another more serious accident early this morning on M-66.
Kenneth Clinger, 44, Carson City, was driving a 2011 Chevy cargo van southbound on M-66 when he struck two deer in the southbound lane near Snows Lake Road. Clinger pulled his vehicle to the shoulder of the road to report the accident.
Kimberly Johnson, 37, of Carson City, was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion southbound and swerved to avoid the deer laying in the roadway. She collided with the cargo van on the shoulder of the road at about 5 a.m.
Johnson was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated from her vehicle with help from the Sheridan Community Fire Department.
Montcalm County Emergency Services transported her to Carson City Hospital before AeroMed airlifted her to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where her condition was not available this morning.
Clinger was not injured.
According to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
