Social Security recipients get raise

WASHINGTON —  People receiving Social Security will receive their first raise in three years in 2012.
The Social Security Administration is giving a 3.6 percent cost of living raise to 60 million recipients nationwide.
Increased payments for 8 million supplemental security income recipients will begin Dec. 30 while Social Security beneficiaries will begin receiving higher payment in January.
About 161 million workers will pay Social Security taxes in 2012. About 10 million will pay higher taxes with an increase in the maximum taxable income amount from $106,800 to $110,100.
