GREENVILLE – Black Field is now for youth football, Yellow Jacket Stadium is for soccer and track, Stankey Field is for baseball and Industrial Field has been taken over by a yet to be named new football facility.
Over the next week or so, Greenville officials and student council members are taking recommendations for names to the new football facility.
School students have been submitting suggestions as has district employees. They would also like to hear what you have to say. If you have a name suggestion email it to athletic secretary Danielle Palmer at email@example.com.
“The student council, Brian (Zdanowski), myself and a few others will meet and go over the suggestions,” Palmer said. “We will choose the top five, or more depending on the number of ideas, and present it to the board, who will make the ultimate decision.”
Palmer said they are hoping to have suggestions for the school board to go over at their December meeting.
Popular suggestions so far have been The Hive, Jeff Day Field, Legends Field, Heritage Field, Jacket Bowl and Community Field.
Jeff Day Field would be named after Greenville’s longtime athletic trainer. There has been a lot of talk about this particular name among staff members and residents.
“I kind of like Heritage Field,” Palmer said. “Then you can put photos of influential people next to the gate when people come in.”
Another idea is just renaming the entire complex the Yellow Jacket Athletic Complex.
Kelly Roney’s high school marketing class has an assignment this week of coming up with a name and ideas on how to market the facility.
Right now these are just suggestions. School officials appreciate your help in deciding the proper name for the new football facility.
The facility is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in mid-August 2012 and host its first game against Belding.
