CARSON CITY — Fellowship Baptist Academy finished up its varsity soccer season last week with a loss in a preliminary game of the Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division 2 soccer tournament (8 on 8).
Fellowship Baptist Academy (FBA) lost a tight match against Community Baptist of Saginaw 5-4. They had beaten the same Community team in the regular season.
FBA jumped out to a 1-0 lead and went into the half with the game tied 2-2.
“I really felt that if we could get a 2 goal lead on them they would lose heart and give up, but we just couldn’t get to that poin,” coach Kevin McAlvey said.  “We’d score and go ahead and then they would match us.  Truthfully, it was just a very competitive, fun game to be a part of.  I’m proud of the attitude and effort we gave as a team tonight.”
Community took the lead 3-2 before FBA tied the game again just five minutes later. The two teams traded goals once more before Community scored the game winner with just seven minutes left in regulation.
Brandon Walker scored four goals for community while Thomas Smith tallied one.
Yunho Lee scored three times for FBA while Mo Kim added a goal and assist in the loss. David Chandler made 14 saves.
“I’m proud of my team. We struggled during the middle of the season and did not fold,” McAlvey said. “We kept working all year and finished playing our best soccer. I’m proud of their testimony for Christ and for Fellowship.”
FBA finished the season with a 2-10 record and will no lose any seniors for next year. They will return all eight starters.
