GREENVILLE — The Greenville Public Schools Board of Education voted on a package of bids for the bond project Monday night.
Fifteen of 17 bids were approved by the board for the project. The bidding process is now 70 percent complete. Two of the bids, synthetic turf and telecommunications still have some “quirks” that need to be worked out.
Marty Schultz, project manager from Clark Construction Company, said the group is looking at all aspects when it comes to the synthetic turf.
The aspects being analyzed include the how the turf lays, injuries on the turf including concussion statistics and much more.
A group of players has even gone to other stadiums to try out turf to see which ones work the best, he said.
“We are really doing our homework on this one,” Schultz said.
The group is currently looking at the telecommunication bid to see what the next step should be.
Schultz said the first two bids were not complete. One only bid half the project while other did not match the credentials.
Schultz said when interviewing companies, one question that is asked is how much local help will be hired.
Board President Janet Ralph gave praise to the maintenance staff that has invested a lot of time into the project.
“It is appreciated,” Ralph said.
