SIDNEY — Montcalm Community College (MCC) hosted a small gathering to honor those who have served in the military Thursday afternoon.
The MCC Veterans Club sponsored the Veterans Day Ceremony. The ceremony included presentations from Major James Peacock of the  U.S. Marines; Gary Hauck, dean of instruction and faculty and chaplain in the Army Reserves; Doug Reinsmith, Army sergeant first class; and Valerie VanderMark, coordinator of the MCC music program.
Hauck said he wanted to bring to bring a ceremony like this one to the campus when he was hired in 2008. That same year, he made it happen and it has been an annual event since.
“Sometimes veterans are forgotten on campus and in the county,” Hauk said and added he wanted to get all aspects of the college including students, faculty and veterans on campus.
Peacock gave a speech regarding the meaning of Veterans Day, why it is important and how powerful the Pledge of Allegiance is.
“It’s not enough to utter the words,” Peacock said of the Pledge of Allegiance. “You have to live by them.”
The 10-minute ceremony was concluded by VanderMark singing God Bless America and included “This Solemn Prayer.”
