STANTON – Central Montcalm’s football team may have missed the playoffs this season, but they made it on the all-conference teams for the Central State Activities Association.
The Green Hornets combined to get nine players on the all-conference teams for 2011. They had six on the first team and four on the second team.

Central’s first-teamers were Tyler James on offense, Jon Fickle on special teams and Brandon Antes, Jesse Judge and Sam Rockafellow on defense.

Rockafellow led the Hornets in solo tackles with 84. Judge played on both the offensive and defensive lines and made 53 total tackles. Fickle punted and kicked off on special teams.

James played on the offensive line for Central, while Antes was on the defensive line.

Second-team all-conference for the Hornets were Fickle, Jacoby Drumm and Seth Walker on offense and Garrett Morris and Ben Bishop on defense.

Fickle’s rushed for a team-high 572 yards and was second in receiving yards with 110 behind Drumm’s 123. Walker was an offensive lineman.

Morris was second on the Hornets in total tackles with 90, and had an interception and three fumble recoveries. Bishop registered 18 total tackles and three picks.

Lakeview, meanwhile, had two all-conference players: Joe Main on first team defense and Koty Burgess on second-team offense.

Main led the Wildcats with 109 tackles – the only player with triple-digit tackles.

“Joe was a captain and a leader,” Lakeview coach Guenther Mittelstaedt said. “We made a lineman into a fullback and he ended up being our leading rusher. On defense he was very instrumental on our defense. He also had our only pass interception this year and returned it 27 yards. He was very coachable, hard working and just very important to Lakeview football.”

Burgess played on the offensive and defensive line for the Wildcats.

“We did average 210 yards a game on offense, which was pretty good,” Mittelstaedt said. “He did a great job of blocking for us. On defense he also contributed a great deal and was one of our top D-linemen.”

Honorable mention all-conference were Gus Ward, Andrew Hall and Jordan Betham of Lakeview and Austin Edwards of Central Montcalm.
