As Thanksgiving approaches GLC HOPE Ministries looks at all the things we are thankful for this year.
Last year about this time we posted somewhat of a bleak article in the paper entitled “Mission faces challenge.” We stated that if things did not change financially by January we may have to discontinue our services in the community. This year we are pleased to report that, while we still struggle, as so many other non-profits do, we are able to stay afloat. Our challenges have been many with an increase in need for food, shelter, household items and furniture by many struggling in our community.
We are so blessed to be able to minister to everyone who walks thru our front door because many of you have made it possible this past year. Below is a list of what we are thankful for:
• First and foremost are the major life changes we have seen in the residents.
• Thousands of donated household items and furniture allowing us to give them to those in need. We do not sell them. We give them to those that truly have a need and are unable to supply for themselves.
• Many churches, businesses and individuals that have made generous donations of food, keeping our food pantry stocked to help the hungry.
• Snyder Roofing for donating their time and finances to ensure there are no more leaks in our roof.
• Eye doctors for our residents giving eye examinations and glasses when needed. Dr. Mark Canfield  (Greenville Family Eye Care), Dr. Rocky Hansen (Hansen Vision Center) and Grand Rapids Ophthalmology.
• Dr. John O Donald (Family Cosmetic Dentistry) and Dr. Tara Meachum, (Greenville Family Dental) for totally reconstructing a couple of residents smile by giving them a new look and healthier life.
• Dr. Gerald Tovatt and Dr. Matthew DeWys for giving medical evaluations and assistance to our residents.
• Greenville Foundation for donations allowing us to make aesthetic changes to the outside of our building and educational materials for our residents.
• Area businesses/organizations that have given generously with items, time, talents or financially support this year: Aggressive Tooling, Jerry’s Paint, Fair Salvage Company, Patten Plumbing, Stafford Media Solutions, American Legion, Mersen USA, Dairy Queen, Michigan Tub & Spas, Pizza Hut, Greenville Area Corvette Club, Beth’s Precision Cuts, Visual Impact and the Lions.
Churches and the many individuals that give financially to support the mission by sending in their donations or placing money in the coin banks located at various area merchants throughout the community.
So as you my see by our enormous list we have so much to be thankful for. We look forward to 2012 with great anticipation. We truly thank you for believing in us and the mission God has given us in this community.
