MEETING IN BRIEF: Lakeview Village Council

Actions taken:
1. Approved the meeting agenda.
2. Approved Oct. 10 meeting minutes.
3. Approved bills totaling $52,601.47. Dominic Trevino asked about the iCComander bill. Village Manager James Freed said he will bring more information to the Personnel Committee. Craig Farrell asked about two bills for liability and property insurance for the Lakeview Municipal Airport and Montcalm County membership and dues. Freed explained the insurance bill and said the county bill is for the police department system.
4. A motion made by Dave Lund to purchase a television for council chambers use at a cost not to exceed $1,200 failed with no support. Farrell asked for more options and information.
5. Authorized Freed to accept an amended contract from Rowe Professional Services at a cost not to exceed $4,540 for a Lincoln Avenue project.
Discussion items:
1. Jourdan Lindsey reported the Lakeview Winterfest will be Feb. 3-4.
2. Police Chief Darin Dood reported Officer Cecil Queen is leaving his position in Lakeview for a full-time job in Kalamazoo Township starting at the end of November. A replacement officer will not be hired at this time.
3. Department of Public Works Director Gary Jensen reported water loss is going down, there are two meter replacements left to do not counting vacant dwellings and 40 tons of salt has been purchased.
4. Farrell asked about Christmas decorations. Feed reported there will be a lighted garland this year.
5. Freed reported that the revenue sharing projections he made have been going well. The first step of the proposal for shared services and retention guidelines have satisfied legislative requirements. Freed also reported on consolidation of services, overlay on Hooper Street and a recent staff meeting to look at cost reductions. Ruth Schottle cautioned looking at privatization. Freed also reported on the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and wellhead protection, the new Chamber of Commerce billboard on M-46, water and sewer licenses, property taxes and senior citizen housing, which is scheduled to break ground in the spring.
