HOWARD CITY — Lakeview’s wrestling team came up just short at the Tri County Wrestling Invitational Saturday, but the Wildcats won’t complain too much.

The Wildcats lost in the championship match to Chippewa Hills 49-22 to take second. It was their only loss on the day.

Lakeview beat the host Vikings, Grandville Calvin Christian and Morley Stanwood to get to the final round.
Tri County lost all five of their meets, losing to Belding, Calvin Christian and Morley Stanwood in pool play, then to Carson City-Crystal in the seventh-place meet.

Belding was 3-1, beating the Squires, Vikings and Mohawks before losing to O-K Blue foe Cedar Springs 40-35 in the third-place match.

“Fourth place is a decent day,” Belding coach Travis Meyer said. “But more importantly I got a lot of kids that got a lot of mat time. A couple of matches we lost a one-match swing.”

Todd Haller was undefeated at 285 pounds, Brady Phelps at 130 and Jesse Scheidel at 119 for the Redskins.
The Eagles lost their pool play matches to Chippewa Hills, LeRoy Pine River and Cedar Springs before taking the seventh-place match.

“We struggled a little bit,” CC-Crystal coach Kacy Datema said. “We missed a couple of kids, and we had another one lost to injury. We knew we had a tough one (Saturday). We’re pretty pleased we came out with one win.”
Ken Dittenber (103) won all his matches as did Eric Ward (152) and Darren Decker (135).

Belding travels to Grand Rapids West Catholic to face the host Falcons and Comstock Park Wednesday. CC-Crystal goes to Grandville Calvin Christian for a quadrangular that same day, while Lakeview and Tri County goes to Chippewa Hills for a triangular.
