Tuesday was distribution day for 18 area food pantries. The Montcalm Challenge Food Drive gave away the 23,864 food items collected during this fall’s drive, which also raised nearly $25,000. That money will be used to buy food in bulk for area food pantries throughout the year. The food drive has been a friendly competition among area businesses since 1991. It has raised nearly 715,000 food items and nearly $270,000 over that time. Commercial Bank won the small business category while Vertis Communications won the large business category.
