GREENVILLE — City Manager George Bosanic has appointed Sgt. Gary Valentine as the interim director of the Greenville Department of Public Safety.
Valentine’s new position started Tuesday following the retirement of former Director Michael Stuck.
“I’m quite thrilled,” Valentine said.
Bosanic said there were two candidates who requested to fill the interim position, which were Valentine and Sgt. Brian Blomstrom.
Currently, Bosanic said, Blomstrom is a finalist for the director position at the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety.
Because of the uncertainty of if or how long Blomstrom may be with the Greenville Department of Public Safety, Bosanic said Valentine was a better choice.
Bosanic is hoping to have the full-time position filled within 45 days.
Through interviews, Bosanic said he is trying to narrow down candidates. He has a committee that will be helping him, which includes Montcalm County Prosecutor Andrea Krause and Sheriff Bill Barnwell.
Valentine said he is going to keep the department moving forward and has had great mentors in the past.
“We have a great group of guys,” Valentine said. “We are going to keep doing what we do.”
Once Bosanic narrows down the candidates for the permanent director position, he will seek confirmation from the City Council.
