GREENVILLE — A woman was injured after an attempted robbery near the Fred Meijer Flat River tunnel last weekend.
According to Greenville Department of Public Safety Interim Director Gary Valentine, a local woman in her 40s attempted to enter the tunnel after shopping at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, but she turned around because gates were at the entrance to the tunnel.
Two men in their late teens or early 20s rode bicycles up to the woman and demanded her shopping bag. The woman refused to turn over the bag.
“A struggle ensued,” said Valentine.
The men fled on their bicycles without the  bag, leaving the woman with a lip injury. The woman was “shaken up,” but refused medical treatment, according to Valentine.
Police canvassed the area, but didn’t find the suspects.
Both of the suspects were wearing stocking caps and one man was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with black symbols on the sleeves.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Greenville Department of Public Safety at (616) 754-9161 or Silent Observer at 1-866-774-2345.
