SHERIDAN — Sheridan Community Hospital associates recently pulled together to provide boxes of needed donations to children and families less fortunate.
The hospital’s gift-giving project went to help support the Stanton Baby Pantry and East Montcalm Baby Pantry in Vestaburg.
From Dec. 5-9, hospital staff members and volunteers collected cash and boxes filled with children’s clothing, baby blankets, boxes of diapers, layette supplies, toddler food items and children’s books. They divided all items and money into two groups and distributed the items to the pantries.
Both baby pantries are a community resource for Montcalm County families needing items for a child ages newborn through 3.  The pantries are not intended to be a primary source of goods. Instead, they assist families during short-term crises.
Stanton Baby Pantry coordinator Judy Hardy said the facility has provided items and food to about 60 families in the last two months. Families are allowed to take two weeks’ of supplies at a time.
The pantries are always in need of diapers, clothing and layette supplies. But right now they are especially in need of clothing, sizes 2T-4T for both girls and boys.
“It’s very clear that this service is needed in our communities and Sheridan Community Hospital is honored to have played a small part,” said Sharon Bowers, the hospital’s director of community and employee relations.
