REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP — A male suspect in a domestic violence call was found dead at a Reynolds Township residence Sunday after what Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies believe was a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

Deputies responded to the call when shots were fired in the 20000 block of West Gates Road.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with a female who indicated that her boyfriend pushed her and bit her after arriving home following a New Year’s Eve party.

The female and her 9-year-old son fled the residence and hid in a wooded area next to the residence. She told deputies that the suspect then fired two shots with a long gun outside the residence.

The female and her son walked to Gates Road where she was able to call a friend to pick up her and her son.

Deputies surrounded the home andsheriff’s negotiators attempted to contact the suspect by phone and loud speaker with no response. Deputies entered the home and located the male suspect, who was found deceased with an apparent self inflicted gun shot wound.

Deputies spent several hours processing the scene. Deputies closed Gates Road for a short period of time during the incident.
