Raines to run for Montcalm County drain commissioner

STANTON — Sandy Raines announced her candidacy Thursday for Montcalm County drain commissioner.
Raines, the deputy drain commissioner, plans to campaign for Drain Commissioner Donald Cooper’s seat in the Nov. 6 election.
Cooper plans to retire when his term ends at the end of this year. He is endorsing Raines as his replacement.
Raines, who is running as a Republican, has worked for the Montcalm County Drain Commission for 33 years.
The drain commissioner oversees all established intracounty drains and intercounty drains and is also responsible for public sanitary sewers, lake improvements boards, established legal lake levels, minimum standards for storm water design for subdivision drainage, Department of Public Works and is the county’s agent for soil erosion and sedimentation control.
Raines and her husband, Veldra, live in Sidney Township. They have five children and eight grandchildren.
