CARSON CITY — One of the standout members of Carson City-Crystal’s wrestling team has been defending state champion Kenneth Dittenber.
He’s not the only one. Add Garner Cusack to that.
Cusack has been helping the Eagles in the 125-pound weight class this season.
“I think things are going good,” he said. “I bumped up to 130 a couple of times and lost three times at 130. I’ve only lost once at 125. I think things are going to be pretty good at state (the state finals) but we have a pretty tough division.”
The Eagles are in Division 4. Cusack said the team is also doing well.
“They’re all coming together,” he said. “The last two weeks they’ve came together pretty good. We lost three of our kids, two of them our sophomores. Everybody else is doing well.”
Cusack has improved from last year to this year, he said.
“Everything,” he said. “Everything I’ve been getting a lot better at. I’m a lot quicker, I’m in good shape.”
Cusack’s goal for this year include getting to the state finals in Division 4 this year.
“At least get top eight in the state,” he said. “My only goal right now is just to get to state. Hopefully win it. I want to win it, but I’ll find out.”
Does Cusack think the Eagles can join him in the state finals as a team?
“If they want to be,” he said. “It’s all up to them. If they want to go to state, why not? They have to want it.”
