MEETING IN BRIEF: Montcalm Township

Name of board: Montcalm Township.
Meeting date: Jan. 11.

Actions taken:
1. Approved the agenda.
2. Approved the Dec. 14 township board meeting minutes.
3. Approved moving $34,707.74 to Huntington Bank for a 17-month certificate of deposit at a rate of 1.01 percent.
4. Approved the payment of bills.
5. Approved the purchase of the Ventis MX4 Multigas Detector for $675, the calibration gas for $170 and the flow regulator for $110, for a total of $955.
6. Approved hosting the fire officer III classes at Montcalm Township Hall.
7. Approved $980 for the purchase of the pass alarms to upgrade seven of the SCBA packs.
8. Approved appointing Mike Martin to the fire board.
9. Approved reappointing library board representatives Stephen Hole and Carole Cole consistent with library board terms.
10. Approved using fire millage funds for the purchase of gas monitor and the pass alarms for the fire department.
Discussion items:
1. Because school has begun, Supervisor Michael Adams will not be available on Tuesdays. A schedule of hours for the township hall will be posted weekly on the township hall door.
2. According to Cary Vaughn of the state Treasury Department, the report was sent out.
3. An additional invoice was received from Hungerford after more than a year after final payment was made. The invoice is being disputed with a status update for next meeting.
4. Be careful on the ice due to the unusually warm weather.
5.   Treasurer Rose Hyde made a recommendation to move the Commercial Bank certificate of deposit in the amount of $34,707.74 to Huntington Bank for a term of 17 months at a rate of 1.01 percent.
6. Trustee Tom Smith asked if trustees had been paid for the Dec. 1, 2011, special meeting. Clerk Carol Rosebrook indicated the payment had been missed and she would send them an additional check.
7. Received reports from the sheriff’s department, planning commission, zoning board of appeals, cemeteries, library board, zoning administrator, assessor, county commissioner, fire department, trustees and clerk.
8. According to the Michigan Townships Association, fire board members should be appointed to six-year terms. It was decided to have the fire board recommend the term adjustments and address this at the next township meeting.
9. Resident Jerry Graves asked about the ISO status and charges for fire runs.
10.    County Commissioner John Johansen suggested a chart of appointments and indicated the motion involving the fire department purchases did not specify which fund would be used for the equipment.
Members present: Supervisor Michael Adams, Clerk Carol Rosebrook, Treasurer Rose Hyde and trustees Tom Smith and Rick Rought.
