RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — A structure fire that began in a garage was successfully contained Sunday night at a home on N. Crystal Road.
At 6:12 p.m. the Richland Township Fire Department responded to the garage fire, which, according to Fire Chief Calvin Callison, was caused by a “wood-burning apparatus.”
“The fire damaged one of the bedrooms in the house, but we were able to contain it to one area and it didn’t take long to put out flames,” he said.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
Callison said the fire was contained quickly, but the department had a hard time extinguishing the fire completely as it continued to burn beneath the floorboards.
“We were able to stop it real quick, but it got under the floor so we had to go after it,” he said.
The Fremont Township Fire Department assisted on the scene.
