CC-C girls roll to big win over Fulton

MIDDLETON — The 41 points the Carson City-Crystal girls basketball team scored against Fulton may not look impressive, but it was the other number on the scoreboard that was.

The Eagles held the Pirates to just 11 points in 32 minutes in the 41-11 win Tuesday night.

“We played really good defense,” CC-Crystal coach Larry Farmer said.

After the Eagles (12-2, 11-1) jumped out to an 8-3 lead after one quarter, the defense kicked into high gear. Fulton didn’t score a point in the second quarter while CC-Crystal scored 14.

“We just played a good overall game,” Farmer said. “We played sound defense and we were moving the ball and hitting shots on the offensive end.”

In fact, Farmer didn’t make any adjustments at halftime leading 22-3.

“Things were going pretty well,” he said.

The Pirates scored just five points in the third quarter and three in the fourth as the Eagles cruised to their 11th win in the Central Michigan Athletic Conference.

“The reason we’re doing as well as we have been this year is good defense,” Farmer said. “41 is not an outstanding offensive output but we played good defense” Tuesday night.

Freshman Mikayla Duflo led all scorers with 13 points. Hailey Geister added 10 more to the win.

Farmer noted it’s nice to have Duflo take some of the defensive pressure off senior guard Sara Schneider, but there’s more to CC-Crystal than just those two players.

“The both of them have been outstanding this year,” Farmer said of Duflo and Schneider. “They’re two of the better guards in the area. Before this game, the two previous game we had five different people in double figures. You can’t be one or two people. You have to be a team. All eight of them have contributed.”

Farmer is expecting more of a battle in the Eagles’ next game.

“We have a really tough game Thursday night at home against Bath,” he said. “They’re really good and we’re going to have to play really well to beat them.”

CC-Crystal defeated Bath 47-34 on the road Dec. 13.
