GREENVILLE – The Education Foundation of Greenville is entering into its fourth year of its OUR3 campaign and officials are excited about the results.
Since beginning the campaign, it has raised more than $526,000 through pledges or donations for academic enhancements and performing arts funds.
To add to the success of the campaign, the foundation has announced a new opportunity for the OUR3 campaign and is expanding the foundation’s endowments.
The third leg of the campaign will be an athletic fund that has been established for the purpose of protecting and expanding extra-curricular offerings in school athletics.
The athletic fund will cover the maintenance of existing programs and/or future offerings.
In the beginning, the foundation focused on the first two legs of the campaign, but now with support from the community, foundation officials felt it was the right time to offer the athletic fund.
Due to annual reductions at K-12 schools, painful decisions were made to programs and services not directly related to academic achievement including extracurricular activities.
The foundation partnered with the Greenville Area Community Foundation in 2008 to start the two initial funds.
At the time, athletic programs were funded and in no apparent danger of pending reductions. The need at the time was safe and appropriate facilities.
This year, the largest cuts were experiences at schools. Although there was a minimal impact to athletics, cuts could not be completely avoided.
The community spoke and was clear in demonstrating the value placed in academic and athletic programs.
The foundation is responding to these interests and needs help in establishing the third leg of the endowment funds that is dedicated to Greenville Athletics.
