Teenager arrested after confessing to stealing car

SIDNEY TOWNSHIP — A 14-year-old male was arrested for unlawful driving away of an automobile early Monday morning after authorities responded to the Half Moon Lake Hotel on a report of a stolen vehicle.

While Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the incident at the hotel around 2:30 a.m., a caller reported a male subject, described as wearing a black hoodie, and said he was running eastbound in the area of Janet Drive.

Deputies searched the area and located a residence where there appeared to be activity.

After talking with residents at the home, the deputies located items, which were reported stolen, inside a vehicle at the residence.

Further investigation resulted in a confession from the teenager. He told deputies the stolen vehicle had been abandoned in an area near Colby Ranch.

Deputies responded to the scene and located the vehicle which had been driven into several trees and sustained damage.

The deputies processed the scene and a wrecker was called in to to remove the vehicle.

The victim recovered her vehicle and stolen property.

The incident is under investigation by Montcalm County Sheriff’s detectives. The case has been turned over to the prosecutor’s office for review.
