CARSON CITY— Michigan State Police Lakeview Post troopers arrested a Carson City man Monday on numerous charges — and more are pending.
Brandon Luke Devers, 28, was arraigned and charged in three cases so far. He is charged with arson of personal property and receiving and concealing stolen property in the first case and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle in two other cases.
Warrants are also being sought for possession of meth, possession of marijuana and fleeing and eluding a police officer.
Troopers investigated the breaking and entering of a building in the Carson City area, where meth lab components were left behind. Information was developed on a suspect and his possible location, as well as a vehicle, a red 1996 GMC Jimmy, which had been stolen earlier that morning.
The stolen vehicle was seen on Crystal Road. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The driver attempt to evade a trooper by traveling at a high rate of speed over the distance of several miles, committing numerous traffic violations in the process.
The driver eventually stopped when he was unable to elude the trooper. The driver was determined to be the suspect, Devers. He had several felony warrants out for his arrest, in addition to the new charges.
The vehicle was identified as being stolen from a residence on Church Road in the Vestaburg area in the early morning hours. Upon a search of the vehicle, meth and marijuana were located and seized.
Devers was arrested and lodged in the Montcalm County Jail in Stanton, where he remains. He is scheduled for a preliminary exam March 20 in 64B District Court in Stanton.
During the pursuit, troopers were assisted by Montcalm County Undersheriff Mark Bellinger, who stopped eastbound and westbound traffic on M-57. He later joined the pursuit and assisted in identifying pursuit direction and location.
