Man charged for using child porn in Montcalm County

GRAND RAPIDS —  A man is facing federal charges for allegedly distributing and possessing child pornography in Montcalm County.

Benjamin Charles Small is charged with distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography — both felonies.

The case was filed Feb. 14 in U.S. District Court Western District of Michigan Southern Division after a grand jury indictment.

The charges allege that Small knowingly distributed child pornography in the form of digital images via the Internet to a person in Southern California on Jan. 4, 2010, in Montcalm County.

The charges also allege that Small knowingly possessed one or more computer files containing images of child pornography from about  Jan. 4, 2010, to about May 26, 2010, in Montcalm County.

According to the indictment, the images were produced using materials that had been shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce, including an Inspiron 6000 laptop, a Dell Dimension tower, a Seagate external hard drive, a 4 GB SD card, a 1 GB SD card, a 2 GB SD card and 25 CDRs, which were manufactured outside the state of Michigan.
