Greenville Middle School student expelled for 180 days
GREENVILLE — A Greenville Middle School student was expelled from Greenville Public Schools for possession of a knife.
On Monday, the Board of Education held a closed special meeting for a discipline hearing. The board voted in open session to expel a middle school student for 180 days for possession of a knife.
“We had no reason to suspect any students were in danger, but the law leaves very little room for interpretation,” Superintendent Pete Haines said.

I don’t think this law is right. A pocket knife is a useful tool. We used to carry them everywhere, because you never knew when you might need one. Now if you have one on your person, it is assumed that it is for an unlawful, harmful, and dangerous purpose. Not because you want to peel and apple or open a box with it. Boy Scouts are told to be prepared and yet this undermines that preparation.
