After a successful festival last June, the Carson City Frontier Days may be in serious trouble. Tami Tasker of the Frontier Days Committee reported to the Carson City Council that the festival lost their long-time title sponsor Carson City Hospital in October, due to the economy and are struggling to raise money for the annual event.

A spunky nurse with a knack for getting her move on was honored Tuesday evening during the 19th annual Carson City Area Community Recognition Night at St. Mary’s Hall. Nora Ryan, a registered nurse at Carson City Hospital and local Zumba instructor, was named Citizen of the Year on Tuesday evening in front of her family, friends and co-workers.

Nearly 50 years ago, George Buck helped uncover one of the greatest findings in the history of Lennon. Today, the 93-year-old resident of The Laurels in Carson City continues to relive his experiences of excavating a rare mammoth skull by telling his tale of discovery to fellow residents. Buck arrived at The Laurels in November 2010 and was immediately looking for ways to contribute.

The streets of downtown Carson City will be shining a little brighter for a lot less wattage with the planned installation of new street lamp fixtures down Main Street. Medler Electric of Alma will be installing new 150-watt fixtures to all 28 poles lining Main Street. This new “bulb-style” induction lighting will replace the more fragile double 175-watt fixtures that were part of the street posts installed within the last decade.
