Parks & Rec plans to rediscover Montcalm County
STANTON — The Montcalm County Parks & Recreation Committee is hoping people and businesses will re- “Discover Montcalm.”
The committee met Tuesday morning to discuss the 2010-2011 Discover Montcalm tourism magazine and plan the next publication.
The county had about 10,000 copies of the magazine printed more than a year ago and successfully distributed most of them throughout Montcalm County, as well as several Michigan welcome centers, according to Jeni Williams, administrative assistant for the controller-administrator’s office.
“I think certainly we need to update the content,” said committee member Franz Mogdis. “Also, there’s some areas I think we perhaps want to emphasize a little more than we have, including the opportunity in the county for businesses and permanent resident locations. A lot of these people are going to be people who know nothing about Montcalm County. I think we need to communicate to these people what we have to offer and why they might want to locate a business or a home here.”
The committee unanimously voted to look through last year’s publication for changes and updates for next year’s publication, as well as to contact a publishing company.
Committee members will review changes at their May 1 meeting and hopefully move forward with publishing the magazine by their June meeting.
“We’ve got the basic starting point here and I think it’s good,” Mogdis said. “We just need to tweak it.”
