PIERSON TOWNSHIP — Memorial services for a 16-year-old drowning victim will take place Thursday evening at his high school.
Dalton Gustinis disappeared in the early morning hours of March 30. Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies located his body the afternoon of March 31.
Gustinis, Nathan MacKenzie and David Vandyke, all 16-year-old students at Tri County High School, launched a 14-foot aluminum boat at the public boat launch at Little Whitefish Lake. A short time later, the boat began to take on water and capsized.
The teenagers attempted to swim back to the boat launch, but Gustinis was separated from MacKenzie and Vandyke. When the two teenagers returned to shore, they discovered their friend was missing.
None of the teens were wearing life jackets.
A memorial service for Gustinis will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Tri County High School.
Gustinis is survived by his parents, Sherry and Tony Quick and Mike Cole; siblings, Miranda, Heather, Dillon, Justin, Jake, MacKenzy, Briana, Kaylee, Kelan, Montanna and Billy; and grandparents, Randy and Gloria Stauffer, Fran Cole and Frank Cole.
Heckman Funeral Home in Howard City is in charge of funeral arrangements.
