FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP – Sheridan Community Fire Department was dispatched at 6:57 p.m. to a wooded area just east of Grow Road and south of Fenwick Road.

Assistant Fire Chief Ed Lingeman said he is not sure what started the fire or what way the fire was traveling.

“It looked bigger than it was,” Lingeman said and added he was a little nervous at first and called for backup.

Lingeman estimated about three acres of the state-own property burned, but noted it looked like a lot more because of damage.

He does not believe it was an arson because he has not found any suspicious activity. He said because of how dry the area was, it could have been a number of things that started the fire.

Greenville Department of Public Safety along with Eureka Township’s brush truck assisted Sheridan Community Fire Department.
