GREENVILLE – A local floral company has added a personal twist to the common corsage for the upcoming prom season.
Greenville Floral, located at 221 South Lafayette St., not only offers a variety of common corsages for one’s choosing but also an assortment of silk-fabric corsages.
“I want to stand out as a florist,” said Tom Feeney, co-owner of Greenville Floral. “(The corsages) are not traditional but its important to not do the same as neighboring florists.”
Feeney got the idea to make the fabric corsages after he and co-owner Glen Powell talked with a friend who owns a fabric store. Feeney learned how to make the fabric firm without fraying and began to make different designs with the silk fabric.
“(Feeney) puts a lot of work into them and they are all different,” Powell said.
Once the fabric is ready to go, Powell said it takes Feeney about 20 minutes to make each corsage.
In the arrangements, Feeney can add beads, feather spears, ribbon and more. He also places fake flowers, called permanent flowers, or real ones depending on how the customer wants them.
“We wanted something different,” Powell said. “There are more colors to choose from (than regular corsages) and they are more creative.”
Greenville Floral has been selling the silk-fabric corsages for about three years and it offers a variety of colors to match almost any attire.
There is a display of multiple designs pre-made at Greenville Floral. Feeney said he tries to make it easy for the someone to come in and decide which one is best.
The silk-fabric corsages are something that can also be kept as a keepsake.
“When a customer walks out of here with the quality and everything they deserve, I’m happy,” Feeney said. “I am here to please the customers.”
