Name of board: Maple Valley Township Board.
Meeting date: March 12.

Actions taken:
1. Read and approved Feb. 13 minutes with corrections.
2. Accepted the treasurer’s report as read.
3. Accepted the resignation of Jim Schab from the Planning Commission with regret and thanks for his time served.
4. Appointed Bill Truss to the Planning Commission.
5. Appointed Sally Nastaj, Carollee Olmstead, Christina Lake and Tonya Gorby to the Maple Valley Complex Committee.
6. Adopted federal poverty income guidelines plus 10 percent for 2012 with respect to the general property tax act.
7. Adopted a poverty exempt application to be used by the Board of Review to evaluate applicants.
8. Adopted an asset test for consideration by the supervisor and Board of Review in making a determination as to whether a property meets poverty income guidelines and is eligible for a full or partial exemption of property taxes in accordance with state law.
9. Adjusted budget line items for the treasurer by $20, elections by $660, cemetery by $850 and street lights by $350 and decreased the fund balance by $1,880.
10. Approved paying bills totaling $20,497.92, plus an electronic transfer of $1,388.25 for a total of $21,886.17.
Discussion items:
1. Discussed dogs and cats running loose.
2. Nominating petitions are available from the township for anyone wanting to run for office.
3. Janice Aten will take over deputy treasurer duties starting April 1.
4. The Coral Store is scheduled to open on or before Memorial Day.

Actions taken:
1. Read and approved March 12 minutes with corrections.
2. Accepted the treasurer’s report as read.
3. Approved allowing Fire Chief Dan Kain to put a 1986 Ford truck with an 1,800-gallon tank on Craig’s List online for $6,500.
4. Accepted fees and charges for the township fire department responses and services for fire, medical and other emergencies in regard to Ordinance 20 adopted by the township board on Oct. 11, 2010, and made effective Oct. 19, 2010.
5. Approved ballot language for a special millage on the Nov. 6 election — a proposal for a renewal of 1 mill for fire department operations for four years from 2013 through 2016 to generate revenue totaling $50,757.27 in the first calendar year.
6. Adopted rate changes for the Coral Community Center and the Maple Valley Complex.
7. Approved nine contracts totaling $131,000 with the Road Commission for Montcalm County.
8. Amended previously approved township zoning ordinances to assign No. 21 to the ordinances.
9. Approved allowing the purchase of eight chairs from the Women’s Action Network for a donation of $200.
10. Approved paying bills totaling $26,279.77, plus an electronic transfer of $647.26 for a total of $26,927.03.
Discussion items:
1. Discussed roof repair in Coral and Trufant. Three bids are in and one more will be coming soon. Anyone who lives in the township and is a licensed builder who wants to put a bid in should contact Fire Chief Dan Kain to get specifics.
