Daily News subscriber winner enjoyed all aspects of a “new you”

Candice Smith

Getting spoiled and taking time to relax is what Candice Smith was looking forward to after winning a makeover drawing at the Taste of Home Cooking School event in Greenville last month.

While attending the event with her sister, Smith signed up to receive a new subscription for The Daily News, which entered her into a drawing to win a makeover package from Thomas and Company hair salon in Greenville.

“I was shocked,” Smith said of being the lucky winner. “I have never done anything like this before.”

The makeover included a manicure, pedicure, facial, haircut, hair color and makeup.

Smith, who lives in Greenville said she was looking forward to a look that was more natural along with just taking the day to spend time for herself. “I am looking forward to just being spoiled and relaxed,” she said before her appointment.

The day of the appointment started early as it was just after Thomas and Company opened. Smith said she spent the whole day with the stylists just having fun.

Alee Gladding, a Thomas and Company hairstylist, said Smith came in with her own idea of what she wanted and the stylist went from there. Gladding, who performed the facial, said she did a microdermabrasion on Smith, which is a technique that uses exfoliant crystals to remove dead skin.

“It helps with fine lines and wrinkles,” Gladding said. “She loved (the facial).”

While Smith was at the salon, Gladding said Smith was enjoying every bit of it and was having a great experience.

“She was wonderful and spent the whole day with us,” said Sheri Braman, another Thomas and Company hairstylist.

Braman was in charge of Smith’s cut and color and wanted to stay true to the tones the facial had brought out in Smith.

“We did an (all-over) color with caramel highlights,” Braman said.

The mixture also played into the fun and trendy look Braman said Smith wanted.

“We had fun with her,” she said.

Smith said she was happy with the outcome and had a great time getting it all done.

“Oh my goodness,” Smith said. “It was wonderful.”

Overall, Smith said she could not pick a favorite part of the makeover because it was all so great, so she couldn’t pick.

When talking about the different things she experienced during her appointment, she said she was pleasantly surprised about the microdermabrasion facial and getting her makeup done at the end of the day because she had never had it done before.
