Actions taken:
1. Approved the agenda.
2. Approved the March 28 special meeting minutes.
3. Approved the March 14 regular meeting minutes.
4. Approved Ron Price as the new trustee.
5. Approved the treasurer’s report.
6. Approved the payment of bills.
7. Approved township cleanup day to be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19.
8. Approved to have Montcalm Township host a site depending on cost for a recycling station. If no cost to the township, then the township will.
9. Approved to pay Carl Katterjohn a $5,500 annual stipend to perform the annual fire truck inspections.
10. Approved to allow Fire Chief Clif Dickinson to take as many trucks as he deems necessary to the fireman’s parades.
11. Approved to increase fire department officers’ wage immediately by $1.50 per hour with an additional increase every quarter based on performance reviews by the chief up to a maximum of $15 per hour.
12. Approved $400 for the firefighter II Exam Challenge.
13. Approved signing the automatic mutual aid agreement with Stanton Community Fire Department.
Discussion items:
1. Supervisor Michael Adams said several residents expressed an interest in filling the trustee position. He recommended Ron Price.
2. The board received reports from the sheriff’s office, planning commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, cemeteries, library board, zoning administrator, assessor, the fire department and county commissioner.
3. Discussed having Clerk Carol Rosebrook and fire board Chairman Ron Trachet work together to prepare a resolution for consideration at the May 9 meeting.
4. Katterjohn will assess truck 5 to determine the mechanical condition and investigate the cost of such a conversion to be reported at the May 9 meeting.
5. It was decided to postpone a decision until next month regarding rust repair to explore the costs of having a fabricator build the cabinet versus the body shop.
6. Road committee member Doug Crowley reported on the asset management plan prepared by the Road Commission Montcalm County for Montcalm Township and discussed the proposed road projects. The decision was postponed until May 9.
7. During public comment, people made suggestions for the road commission and as chairman of the planning commission. Mr. Karnatz asked for direction from the township regarding expenses going forward with LandPlan to complete the proposed zoning ordinance.
8. Montcalm County Commissioner John Johansen stated the next solid waste committee meeting will be April 19 for those interested in the recycling issue.
