EUREKA TOWNSHIP — A routine traffic stop early this morning netted several air conditioner units, brake rotors and other metal objects.

According to Montcalm County Undersheriff Mark T. Bellinger, at 1:20 a.m., deputies stopped a minivan for a traffic violation on M-57 near Southwest County Line Road. Upon approaching the van, deputies notices the appliances and other metal objects in the back of the van.

Deputies questioned the driver and a passenger, both males, regarding where they obtained the items. The answers were perceived by the deputies to be deceptive, so other deputies were dispatched to area appliance dealerships where they learned items matching those in the van had been stolen recently.

The owners of Blake Hollenbeck Auto Sales and H & H Plumbing and Heating were contacted and advised of the thefts.

The two men — a 29-year-old Kentwood resident and a 24-year-old Dorr resident — were arrested for felony larceny. They were taken to Montcalm County Jail where they confessed to stealing the items.

The incident remains under investigation.
