LAKEVIEW — A 35-year-old man is being sought by Michigan State Police after causing a head-on crash after traveling south on north U.S. 131 in Montcalm County just before midnight on Wednesday.
Michigan State Police Lt. Kevin Sweeney said a trooper tried to stop a driver of a 1996 black Ford Taurus, but the situation turned into a high-speed chase.
The Trooper ran the plates of the Taurus, which came back as 35-year-old Alan Steven Phelps.
Phelps began traveling south on northbound U.S. 131 causing a head-on crash and fleeing the scene, Sweeney said.
“The occupants in the other vehicle were treated and released at the scene,” Sweeney said.
Currently, troopers are looking for Phelps, described as a white male, 6 foot, 2 inches tall with the birthdate of Oct. 25.
“We are looking for the black Taurus, which is believed to have heavy front damage,” Sweeney said. “We are close to finding him.”
