The Michigan State Police Lakeview Post is continuing to search for a Morley man who allegedly fled during an attempted traffic stop early this morning.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Alan Phelps, 35. He is a white male, about 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He weighs about 240 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

A trooper attempted to stop Phelps for a traffic violation around midnight in northwest Montcalm County. Phelps immediately attempted to flee the trooper.

Phelps drove his vehicle north onto the U.S. 131 expressway in the northbound lane. The expressway is currently under construction and is a one-lane road. Phelps’ vehicle struck another vehicle, causing that vehicle to roll several times.

The trooper stopped chasing Phelps in order to render first aid to the injured victim. Additional troopers and Howard City police officers began chasing Phelps.

Phelps turned off his headlights and exited the freeway. Officers then lost sight of Phelps’ vehicle.

Phelps has several warrants out for his arrest. Additional warrants are forthcoming.

Police received information around 9 a.m. this morning that Phelps was in the area of 4 Mile Road and Northland Drive in southern Mecosta County. An extensive search was conducted utilizing aviation and canine units. Phelps was not located.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Phelps is asked to call 911 immediately.
