JENISON — The Greenville Yellow Jackets girls track team battled some of the best competition in the state this weekend.
The Yellow Jackets competed in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division 1 state championship at Jenison High School on Saturday.
The No. 10 ranked Yellow Jackets placed seventh out of the eight teams that accepted invitations. The top 16 ranked teams were invited, but not all accepted the invitation.
Greenville finished with 383.5 points, just behind Ortonville Brandon’s 385. Rockford was first with 731 points, followed by East Kentwood (685), Grandville (496), Jenison (480) and Macomb Dakota (458.5. Grand Haven was eighth with 21 points.
The day started with cool temperatures and overcast skies. That quickly changed into sunshine and 80-degree-plus temperatures in the afternoon.
Greenville’s Taylor Baker competed in three events. She placed third in the 200-meter dash in 26.72. She was fifth in the 100 dash in 13.09 and placed fourth as a member of the 800 relay team with Audrey Wyse, Rosalyn Wyse and Ally Berry in 1:48.05.
Berry placed eighth in the 200 with a time of 27.59 and 10th in the 100 in 13.69. She also teamed with Carlie Bradford, Madison Sorsen and Taylor Bretzke for sixth in the 400 relay in 54.21.
Bailey Parmelee placed fourth in the 1,600 run, her only competition of the day. She finished with a time of 5:13.22, just four hundredths of a second behind Jane Hawks of Rockford for third. Rockford’s Taylor Manett was first with an incredible time of 4:54.09.
Taylor Christensen had a good day for the Yellow Jackets. She placed fourth in the 100 hurdles in 16.55, fifth in the high jump (4-10) and tied for 10th in the long jump (14-2).
Rosalyn Wyse was runner up in the 300 hurdles in 47.73. Lameeka Davis of East Kentwood was first with 47.10.
Audrey Wyse placed fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.80 and seventh in the pole vault with a vault of 10-0.
The Yellow Jackets’ 3,200 relay team of Stacey Fitzgerald, Clarice Callahan, Cheyanne Heintzelman and Sorsen was sixth with 10:41.26.
Bradford also had a ninth place finish in the long jump with 14-2 1/4.
Fitzgerald finished 10th in the 800 run, as well.
Taylor Zimmer had a fourth place finish in the shot put with 32-3 3/4. Rachel Raab of Rockford was first with 38-10.
Both the Yellow Jackets boys and girls teams will compete in The Daily News Track Invitational today at Greenville High School. Field events begin at 4:45 p.m. and the track finals begin at 6 p.m.
Audrey Wyse, Rosalyn Wyse and Bailey Parmelee will compete Saturday at the MHSAA Division 1 state championship at East Kentwood High School.
