Investigators from the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a break-in and two attempted break-ins that took place early this morning. The break-ins occurred on Wyman Road in Home Township and Crystal Road in Richland Township.

According to the sheriff’s office, an audible alarm sounded at Maxfield’s Restaurant on Wyman Road north of Edmore at about 2:30 a.m. Investigators believe the alarm frightened away the intruders after they had forced their way into the business. There was minor damage to the business’ structure, but no property was missing.

About 45 minutes after the first break-in attempt, while deputies were still at Maxfield’s, a second audible alarm sounded at the Dollar General store on Crystal Road. Again the suspects had forced their way into the business only to be again frightened away by the alarm. There was minor damage to the building, but nothing was missing.

At around 7:30 a.m., while opening their store, the owners of Farmer in the Dell on the corner of Crystal Road and M-46 discovered their business had been broken into. The owners are currently tallying up their losses.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incidents and ask that anyone with information call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at (989) 831-7516 or the tip line at (989) 831-7593.
