HOWARD CITY — The Tri County Middle School principal has been suspended amid alleged financial irregularities.
Middle School Principal William “Bill” Cichewicz was placed on leave last week, according to Tri County Area Schools Superintendent Al Cumings.
“Late last week, I took the unusual step of placing our middle school principal on administrative leave, pending investigation of alleged financial irregularities involving some of the school’s fundraising accounts,” Cumings said. “During this investigative period, we are fully cooperating with authorities. While our intuition wants us to discuss unique circumstances such as this, we want to be respectful of the ongoing investigation and the individuals that are involved. In light of this, I would ask that we not engage in speculation at this time. We will follow our district policies and personnel protocols to ensure appropriate process is honored.”
Robert “Bob” Cichewicz, the father of Bill Cichewicz, served as the longtime school board president for Tri County Area Schools.
High School Principal Kurt Mabie will serve as middle school principal during the investigation.
“On behalf of our graduating seniors and students, I want to assure our community that we will focus on our students’ many accomplishments as our school year draws to a close,” Cumings said. “This unfortunate event should not overshadow the many achievements of our students and staff who have had a successful school year in our district.”
