STANTON — The Montcalm County Parks & Recreation Commission unanimously approved a bid Tuesday from a local company to publish the next edition of Discover Montcalm.

Stafford Media Solutions in Greenville, which owns and publishes The Daily News, will publish the local tourism magazine set to be released in December.

“I think they did a good job last time and I think they’ll do a good job this time,” said Parks & Rec  member Franz Mogdis of Stafford Media Solutions. “The purpose of this magazine is to provide information to residents and visitors. They will see that this is Montcalm County and it increases the likelihood of them returning to Montcalm County.”

The county previously had about 10,000 copies of the 2010-2011 Discover Montcalm magazine published by Stafford Media Solutions and distributed throughout Montcalm County, as well as several Michigan welcome centers. About 2,000 copies remain.

Parks & Rec Commission members discussed ideas Tuesday for the next issue of the magazine. A subcommittee comprised of Parks & Rec President Sally Thomsen and members Mogdis, Alan Hackbardt and Thomas Porter will study the issue more closely.

Parks & Rec member Ron Braman suggested including areas outside Montcalm County — such as Blanchard and Belding — in the new magazine. He noted Blanchard attracts tourists year-round and Belding’s Candlestone Inn golf course attracts visitors as well. He suggested dedicating a few pages of the magazine to towns near Montcalm County in the hope of sending those people into Montcalm County.

The Parks & Rec Commission will meet again on July 3. Anyone may attend.
