Man arrested after crashing into Orleans Township residence, fleeing scene

ORLEANS TOWNSHIP — A man is in custody after crashing a vehicle into the front of a building earlier this morning.

Ionia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accident at 5999 N. State Road at 3:24 a.m.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle sitting inside of the residence.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigation revealed that a Pontiac Grand Am had been traveling westbound on Woods Road at a high rate of speed.

The driver, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, was unable to make the turn onto N. State Road and lost control of his vehicle leaving the roadway and crashing through the front of the building where the vehicle came to a stop.

The residents of the building were asleep in the rear portion of the building and awoke to a loud crashing noise when the vehicle entered the front portion of the building that houses their antique business. The residents were not injured.

The driver fled the scene and was apprehended by deputies a short distance from the scene.

He was treated and released for minor injuries sustained during the crash and has been arrested on multiple charges.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Orleans Fire Department, Life EMS and Ruehs Towing.
