Montcalm Community College is hosting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Montcalm County on June 15-16 on the college’s Sidney campus.
Relay for Life is more than a fundraising event — it offers the community a way to celebrate cancer survivorship, remember loved ones lost and fight back against a disease that takes too much from too many.
More than 32 teams are expected with nearly 500 participants from Montcalm and the surrounding area. Community members are invited to attend, even if they are not actively participating. They may light a luminaria, pledge to save one life from cancer this year or walk laps with friends.
Key activities include:
• Opening Ceremony at noon on June 15
• Fight Back Ceremony at 12:15 p.m. on June 15
• Cancer Survivor Victory Lap at 6 p.m. on June 15
• Luminaria Ceremony at 10 p.m. on June 15
• Closing Ceremony at 11 a.m. on June 16
MCC President Bob Ferrentino said the college is pleased to partner with the American Cancer Society to host this year’s Relay for Life.
“Cancer impacts so many of our lives and the Relay serves as a reminder of the continuing need for research to find the cure as well as a great way to celebrate victories over the disease,” Ferrentino said. “It promises to be 24 hours of fun, reflection and hope for the future. MCC welcomes all the participants to campus as we work together toward the common goal of eradicating cancer.”
One out of every two men and one out of every three women will face a cancer diagnosis in his or her lifetime. Money raised through Relay for Life supports the American Cancer Society’s efforts to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
The MCC campus is at 2800 College Drive in Sidney. For more information, go online to www.relayforlife.org/montcalmcountymi for more information.
