STANTON — A tower near the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office was apparently struck by lightning this morning.
“It scared the bejeebers out of us,” said Central Dispatch Director Tim Scott.
While county officials were still able to take 911 calls and respond to them, they were not able to access the Internet or the county’s computer servers or email.
“We just have to document it on paper and once we get power back we’ll have to backlog everything,” Scott said. “We’re just doing everything by hand and we’ll catch up tomorrow.
“We love excitement, but not this kind,” said Scott with a chuckle. “You start realizing how much you rely on certain kinds of technology. We will probably polish up our non-electronic methods when it’s all over.”
