Belding’s Ellis Elementary School torn down, set to rebuild (Photo Gallery)

The original “Ellis School” and “1920” stone inscriptions were safely dismantled from the east facing of Ellis Elementary School.

Ellis Elementary School along Bridge Street in Belding, which was constructed in 1920, was torn down this week and will be rebuilt this fall with seven new classrooms expected to be finished in January. The construction is part of the 38.8 million bond levy that voters approved in 2010.

Belding school board selects new principal for Ellis Elementary

A familiar face with a strong passion for teaching and leadership will take the helm at Ellis Elementary School as the new principal beginning this autumn. Ellis Elementary first grade teacher Tiffany Jackson, who has taught at Belding Area Schools for four years, was officially selected as the school’s new principal at Monday night’s school board meeting in a unanimous vote by board members.

A mild winter with little snow has helped workers make up for lost time on construction of the new gymnasium and auditorium at Belding High School. “We’ve had the best possible winter weather you can ask for,” Superintendent Leslie Mount said. “The construction crews have been able to do a lot of work they didn’t anticipate.”

Construction has begun at Rudness Field in Belding to install a turf playing field for the football and soccer teams to play on. The change from a grass field to turf field will allow more events to be planned on the surface without fear of wear and tear to the playing grounds. The construction is part of a $38.8 million bond levy that voters approved in 2010.

Electricity was surging through the crowded hallways of Greenville High School on Saturday afternoon — the synapses of hundreds of elementary, middle and high school students firing together to solve problems, find answers and create new inroads to learning. But mostly, it was kids having a heck of a great time.

Its just sad to see it go. Why isnt this a historic building? This town is raising a stink to keep the Clock tower. Why didnt it try to save this school. Its almost 100 years old. My Grandfather went to this school as well as everyone else in the family… Its just sad… lot of old memories.
