GOWEN — A 6-year-old boy who was hit by a car while crossing Sidney Road in Gowen died Thursday from his injuries, according Lt. Steve Russell.

The Gowen boy was on his way home from a neighbor’s house around 6:45 p.m. when he ran across the road in front of a 1998 Lincoln Town Car driven by a 32-year-old man from Lowell.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville, then flown by AeroMed to a hospital in Grand Rapids.

Russell said the names are not being released at this time.

No citations were given at the scene of the accident, Russell said. However, because the boy has died, the case will be handed over to the prosecutor’s office and it will be up to the prosecutor to decide if charges will be brought.

“I will also tell you, we don’t anticipate any charges,” Russell said, noting the prosecutor has the last say.
